Fraud Demands Payment via H-E-B & Threatens to Disconnect Accounts
It has come to our attention that Electricity Company in Texas, NEC Retail Electricity members have received fraudulent phone calls from someone claiming to be an NEC representative. This person claims that we no longer accept bank drafts or recurring credit cards as payment and tells members that if the member does not go to H-E-B to make a payment within hours, their account will be disconnected.
Phone Scams Increase During Holidays
Be vigilant around the holidays with the information you provide over the phone. Scam activity increases exponentially during this time of year.
If you receive a phone call like this, please do not submit a payment as instructed.
Official communication regarding your account will always occur via postal service or email. If you have received a call like this and did submit a payment, please contact your local police department and file a report.
