High School youth to be awarded scholarships or a trip to Washington D.C.

It is time for High School students to submit applications for the Nueces Electric Cooperatives Ramiro De La Paz Scholarship program and the highly anticipated FREE Washington D.C. Youth Tour trip. Nueces Electric Cooperative is honored to be able to provide these programs to our communities and we hope students will take advantage of these opportunities. To be eligible to enter either program, student must be a dependent or have a legal guardian who is Nueces Electric Cooperative or NEC Retail Member.

Ramiro De La Paz Scholarship: High School Seniors are eligible to apply for this multi-year scholarship. Two scholarships of $4,000 are awarded and four additional single semester scholarships of $1,000 are also awarded. Since the fund was created in 2004, 64 area students have received scholarships. All scholarship applications are required to be postmarked on or before February 13, 2015.

Washington, D.C. Youth Tour: Sophomores and Juniors Do you know a high school student who would enjoy spending a week in Washington DC, hanging out with teens from across the country and seeing all that the nation’s capital has to offer? If so, have them apply for our the Co-op Youth Tour which will take place June 10 – 19th. Two lucky youth, will join 150 other students from Texas as they travel to Washington, D.C. where they will meet United States Representative and Senators. This unique trip will give students the opportunity to watch history come alive as they explore the museums, memorials and monuments. To enter, students must complete an entry form and write a short 300-500 word essay. The essay topic is: As a teenager, what is your most valued use of electricity. The deadline for Youth Tour entries is Friday, January 30, 2015.
